How to Delete Your Data

You have full control over your data on CVJinny. There are four different ways you can delete data depending on what you want to remove. Pick the one that fits your situation — every option is fully self-serve and does not require an email or support ticket unless you want one.
Option 1 — Delete a single generated document
To remove an individual CV, cover letter, Statement of Purpose, Application Kit, Resignation Letter, Recommendation Request, or LinkedIn optimization package from your library:
- Sign in to CVJinny at cvjinny.com/cvjinny/login.
- Visit /cvjinny/library.
- Open the item, click Delete, confirm.
The item is removed from your account immediately and hard-deleted from all backups within 7 days. Any recruiter share-links pointing at the document return a 410 Gone response from that moment.
Option 2 — Revoke a recruiter share link
If you've shared a CV with a recruiter via a public share link (e.g. cvjinny.com/v/...) and want to stop them from viewing it without deleting the source document:
- Sign in to CVJinny.
- Open the document in /cvjinny/library.
- Switch to the Share links panel and click Revoke next to the link.
The link returns a 410 Gone response immediately — the recruiter loses access without any further action from you. Activity history (view counts, last-opened timestamp) is retained for 90 days in case you need it for follow-ups; it is then purged with the rest of the document.
Option 2b — Remove your passport-style photo
If you want to remove the photo we use for country formats that include a headshot (Germany Lebenslauf, Japan Rirekisho, GCC, etc.) without deleting your CVs:
- Sign in to CVJinny.
- Visit /cvjinny/account → Profile photo section.
- Click Remove.
The image is hard-deleted from object storage within 7 days. Future renders fall back to the no-photo layout for that country automatically.
Option 3 — Delete your entire CVJinny account & all data
To wipe everything we hold about you:
- Sign in to CVJinny.
- Visit /cvjinny/account → scroll to the Account section.
- Click Delete account, type your email to confirm.
We hard-delete all profile data, generated content, cached metrics, and OAuth tokens within 30 days. Financial & tax records are retained in pseudonymised form for the statutory minimum (typically 7 years) only where law requires it (GST, US Tax, etc.). Aggregated, fully de-identified analytics may be retained indefinitely as they cannot be linked back to you.
Option 4 — Email request (no login required)
If you cannot access your account, or you simply prefer email:
- From the email address on your CVJinny account, send a message to [email protected].
- Subject line: Delete my data.
- Body: state which option you want (single item ID, single platform, full account, or specific piece of personal data).
We respond within 72 hours with confirmation, and complete the deletion within 30 days (or sooner for full-account requests). Identity verification (e.g., a one-time code to your registered email) may be required to prevent unauthorised deletion.
What "deletion" means at CVJinny
- Hard delete on our primary database within the time-frame above (7 days for individual items, 30 days for full-account requests).
- Hard delete from all live backups within 30 days.
- Hard delete from disaster-recovery snapshots when those snapshots roll over (longest retained snapshot = 90 days).
- Anonymisation of any data we are legally required to retain (e.g., financial records for tax-audit purposes), so the residual record cannot be linked back to you.
- Share links are returned 410 Gone the moment you click Revoke — recruiters lose access immediately, even before we finish purging the underlying document.
What we DO NOT delete
For legal & statutory reasons we retain (in pseudonymised form, separated from your identity):
- Tax invoices & payment records — typically 7 years (GST / IRS / HMRC requirements).
- Audit logs of administrative actions — 365 days (security & abuse-investigation).
- Aggregated, fully de-identified analytics that cannot be linked back to you — indefinite.
None of the above can be used to identify you, contact you, or reconstruct your usage history once your account is deleted.
